Thomas Shevory has spent a career as an environmental educator. He taught Environmental Politics at Ithaca College for more than thirty years. He helped to organize Ithaca College’s Environmental Studies Program and served as one its first coordinators. He helped to initiate Ithaca College’s observer status at the United Nations climate conferences and brought groups of students to several of them.
He was co-director (with Professor Patricia Zimmermann) of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film for twenty years, an event that engaged students, local community groups, as well as Ithaca College staff and professors, working with Ithaca College and Ithaca’s non-profit local arts cinema, Cinemapolis, to bring films, filmmakers, artists, writers, and activists to Ithaca.
He has published books and articles on environmental politics, including most recently, Toxic Lake: Environmental Destruction and the Epic Fight to Save Onondaga Lake.
He is currently Professor Emeritus of Politics at Ithaca College.
