LOCAL STUDENT AYDEN GRACE GITHINJI RECEIVES NATIONAL HONOR: New Roots Charter School student recognized for superior academic achievement by The National Society of High School Scholars

ATLANTA, GA – May 12, 2025 – The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) today announced student Ayden Grace Githinji from Ithaca, NY, has been selected to become a member of the esteemed organization. The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship, and community commitment. The announcement was made by NSHSS Co-founder and President James W. Lewis.

“On behalf of NSHSS and our co-founder Claes Nobel, a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, I am honored to recognize the hard work, passion, and commitment that Ayden Grace has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” said Lewis. “Ayden Grace is now a member of a unique community of scholars—a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”

“We are proud to provide lifetime membership to young scholars to support their growth and development,” stated Lewis. “We help students like Ayden Grace build on their academic success by connecting them with learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and meaningful careers.”

“As an upcoming senior, I am hoping to pursue fine arts, design, and entrepreneurship, as well as human studies such as psychology and anthropology.  I plan to gain some credentials in welding, carpentry, and general trades beforehand, and hope to connect such work to my art and metal jewelry business. As a community member of Ithaca, I have worked with the Dorothy Cotton Institute and youth councils I have been a part of to speak out as a youth representative looking to identify the root causes of the socio-economic problems plaguing our local area, and advocating for the improvement of worthwhile education and equitable services for me and my peers, as well as a plethora of opportunities to lead us all to future success and prosperity.  I am looking forward to using this opportunity as a launching point to connect myself with those who recognize the importance of community work and collaboration as well as mentoring artists and entrepreneurs who are passionate about the creative world and how it is applied to activism and civil disobedience, as well as a continuity of the pattern of storytelling and culture through art. I believe this is most important in a time where the best way to take back power is to create something of your own that can tell a story tomorrow, ” said Ayden.

NSHSS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership. Each step along the way from high school to college to career – NSHSS connects outstanding young scholars with the resources they need to develop their strengths and pursue their passions.

Formed in 2002 by James W.
