ABOUT LAURA HELMERICK
Alternative Instruction Educator (HS)
A couple things Josh Allen and Laura Helmerick have in common is that they both graduated from the University of Wyoming (Go Pokes!), and they’ve both moved to NYS in recent years (Go Bills!). Laura and her family felt the outdoor lifestyle of Ithaca could boost wellness during the COVID pandemic.
Laura has a secondary science certification in biology and chemistry, and an MEd in Curriculum and Instructions. As a second career path, Laura was a certified early childhood teacher and learning center director for many years.
Laura was drawn to the student centered approach for ecological sustainability, and deems New Roots curriculum second to none! She has enjoyed teaching science, personal wellness, and more recently serves the alternative learning program. New Roots felt like (and continues to be ) a magnificent opportunity to be part of something where there is passion for making a difference in school, and in our community. Laura is truly grateful for her New Roots family, all of our students and staff!
Outside of school, Laura enjoys family and friends, reading, hiking, and searching for tadpoles with her grandchildren.
