English Teacher

I received my PhD in English & Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and recently moved to Ithaca to start my teaching career. My doctoral work explored the intersections between science, the environment, and medieval literature and I am excited to share my passion for thinking about nature through the lens of literature with my New Roots students. I am fascinated by science fiction, fantasy, and other forms of speculative fiction and I love the conversations that evolve from reading these works with students. Through imagining the natural world, analyzing its portrayals in various forms of media, and creating new stories, I want students to learn the tools to address important questions of sustainability, justice, and equity. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy hiking, painting, writing the occasional novel, and playing board games.
