English Teacher

Eleanor Griggs has been an English teacher at New Roots for 3 years. She is also a Crew Leader and teaches electives such as Creative Writing, Mindful Movement, and Latin. She loves the way that New Roots fosters an environment of inclusivity, creativity, and free expression for students. In her teaching, Eleanor is passionate about creating flexible, adaptable assignments that promote curiosity and excitement, encouraging students to work on topics that are meaningful to them.

Eleanor received her PhD in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2022. There, she studied Medieval Literature and discovered a love of guiding students through difficult, confusing, and disorienting historical texts.

Outside of the classroom, Eleanor enjoys spending time with her 2 beloved cats, tabletop games, and reading plenty of science fiction and fantasy literature.
