Enrollment and Lottery Procedure:
If New Roots Charter School (NRCS) receives more applications than there are spots available in a certain grade, a lottery is held to determine who is accepted and who is placed on a waiting list.
Our lottery system randomly selects students for enrollment. If a student is selected for a spot at NRCS, the school will contact the family after the lottery.
Selection in the lottery does not result in automatic enrollment, as additional documentation must be completed and submitted to secure a student’s seat.
After the April lottery, applications will still be accepted, and seats will be offered on a rolling basis as space allows.
If a lottery is not necessary, families will be notified that their student is offered a seat. The seat will be held, and the family will have a certain amount of time to confirm their enrollment by submitting the required forms.
If all forms are not completed and turned into the Registrar by the deadline, the seat will be offered to the next student on the waiting list.
NOTE: We are available to help you with any questions in completing the forms. The forms are available online, and the links will be emailed to you. Families are welcome to come to the school in person to fill out the forms on a school computer or on paper. In some cases, we can help you complete them over the phone.
Waiting List:
Students whose names are not selected from the list during the admissions lottery are placed on the NRCS waiting list in the order their names were received. Similarly, Students who apply after the deadline will be placed on the waiting list in the order their names were received. For the middle school, the waiting list pertains to the total number of students enrolled. For the high school, a separate waiting list will be maintained for each grade level.
When an admitted student does not submit the required documentation by the deadline or an enrolled student withdraws from the school, the school will contact the parent or guardian of the student next on the waiting list.
Before proceeding to the next name on the list, reasonable and multiple attempts will be made to contact the student’s family to confirm whether the student is still interested in enrolling in NRCS.
The waitlist for each grade level will be maintained until the end of the school year. Waiting lists will not be carried over from year to year.
If, at any time, you know that your student does not wish to be on the waiting list, please send all requests to communityengagement@newroots.org or call (607) 882-9220, ext. 207.
Transportation:
Students’ home districts are required to provide bus transportation to NRCS, provided they live within a 15 mile radius of the school.
If the student lives more than 15 miles from the school, parents/guardians are responsible for getting their student to and from school.
In order to be prepared for enrollment, please contact your home district’s transportation office by April 1st to request bussing to NRCS for the following school year. If the student needs to decline enrollment in NRCS, they can cancel their transportation request with their home district.
