ABOUT DAVID COPENHAFER

Music (Adjunct)

After receiving a PhD in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley in 2004, David taught for three years (in Music, Cinema Studies, and Comp Lit) at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2008, he moved to New York City to help found Bard High School Early College Queens (a collaboration between Bard College and New York City public schools).
 
In 2023, he moved to Ithaca to be with his wife, Sarah, who attends Cornell Law School. David has written articles for both academic and popular journals, and he is working on a book called The Literary Acoustic: Figures of Music and of Sound in Kafka, Joyce, Proust, and Ellison. He teaches guitar privately and has played both guitar and bass in several bands. In 2012, David released a solo album, Don’t Call it the Moon. A second album will be out soon.
 
David likes helping students learn how to play rock, pop, and jazz.
