English Teacher & Curriculum Leadership

Maureen Bartlett grew up in Lockport near the Erie Canal locks, and attended college in Massachusetts where she met her husband Andy, an agriculture major. They both wanted to farm, so they moved to Chenango County and farmed there for 25 years, starting with sheep and then switching to dairy and later to beef. She also became a certified English teacher and taught at Sherburne-Earlville High School before moving to DCMO BOCES, where she designed and taught an experiential Agriculture and Environmental Science program for high-school seniors. She also taught college writing for the New Vision Health and Law programs and in the other programs in her CTE center.

Most recently, she has been back working in Western New York providing district-level curriculum and teaching support in Career and Technical Education (CTE) at Orleans Niagara BOCES and finally, acting as an Assistant Principal at a CTE center and Coordinator of Adult Education. She recently moved to Spencer to be near her farmer son and his wife and their four-year-old daughter. Her other two grown-up children live in Buffalo. In her spare time she loves to sing, read and write (has published one book) and to hike with her dog Scout, swim, and help on the farm. She is thrilled to bring her experience in both farming and education to New Roots Charter School.
