Science Teacher
Hi, my name is Betty Jensen and I’m excited to join the staff at New Roots Charter School this year. My family has just moved across the country from the San Diego, CA area to Ithaca, NY. I’ve spent the last 20 years teaching life science at a charter school with similar missions and visions in pedagogy as New Roots and I am looking forward to continuing to work with students on their mastery of science as well as preparing them for their next chapters after high school. My interest and passion for science have been with me from an early age when I created my first insect collection in 4th grade. I have studied Entomology ever since, including my undergraduate major from the University of Kentucky and my Master’s from the University of Notre Dame. Outside of the classroom my family has a menagerie of animals at home from invertebrates to vertebrates, we enjoy world travel, and, yes, I am a soccer mom. I am looking forward to beginning this next chapter of my life and teaching career with New Roots Charter School and meeting all of you.
