Synnove Heggoy

Dr. Synnove Heggoy’s teaching career spanned 30 years, first at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels, and then as an Instructor at the University of GA for four years her while earning her doctorate.  Dr. Heggoy then taught at GA Southern University for 19 years and was one of three professors, including Dr. N. Gregg (UGA), and Dr. R. Morris (GA State U.), who wrote a grant for the establishment of three assessment centers for students with Learning Disabilities and/or Attention Deficit Disorders.  This model, Regents Center for Learning Disabilities (RCLD) was adopted in Georgia, and became a model used by several other states. Dr. Heggoy was the Founding Director of the RCLD at Georgia Southern Univ. serving for 10 years before retiring.  

 

Dr. Heggoy lived in many countries, including Norway, France and Algeria.  She also lived in Georgia for 33 years and Mississippi for 3 years before moving to NY in 2008 to be near her children and grandchildren.  She likes to weave, sew and quilt. She is a Master Gardner, and volunteers at the Plantations (Cornell U). She sits on the Board of Trustees of New Roots Charter School, and served as Secretary of the Board for six years.
